Magic – The Science of Illusion @ MOSI

Mind reading, floating in thin air, a head without a body — is it magic or science -

Or perhaps a little of both?  Magic: The Science of Illusion explores basic science

Concepts used in a set of custom-made illusions and shows how these science

Concepts relate to our everyday lives. In the exhibit, visitors can learn how

Magicians use psychology, physics, math, engineering and the art of performance

to create complex and visually stunning effects. While science seeks to explain the

wonders of the world, magicians use some of the same forces and principles to

mystify us and do the impossible

Pricing includes admission to MOSI exhibit galleries, Kids in Charge!, Magic: The Science of Illusion, and one standard IMAX Dome Theatre film. Call MOSI Reservations at (813) 987-6000 to purchase.

IMAX Recommendations:  Film Roving Mars The Mars Exploration Rover mission is part of NASA’s Mars Exploration Program, a long-term effort of robotic exploration of the red planet. Designed, built and operated by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the twin robot geologists Spirit and Opportunity launched toward Mars in search of answers about the history of water on Mars.

Go climb a tree!

Pathfinder in St. Pete can help you achieve your highest goals – that is if one of your goals is to hang from high up in an oak tree.  The first Saturday of each month you will find a team of dedicated tree climbers ready and waiting to help you master tree climbing.  Yes you can!  You can do this and so can your kids over six years old.  Check out their website for climbing dates and times.  The first weekend in April they are having a benefit climb

Comb the beach for fossils!

9-year-old Grant Johnson just found a Magalodon tooth on Egmont Key!   Comb area beaches with yours kids and uncover evidence of Florida as it was long ago.  All local beaches are good for finding fossils you just have to know what you are looking for.  I have found an ancient horse tooth and many gator teeth on St. Pete beach and tons of shark teeth on Bellaire Beach.

Want to get some information before you go?  Check out Lost in Time @ the St. Pete Pier An amazing collection of artifacts and gems - each personally collected by the owner!  More like a museum than a store, Lost in Time features gifts from nature and the ancient world. Visit and speak with the owner, Brian Evenson, who has more than 40 years experience in the field of archeology, and handpicks ALL the merchandise that is for sale in his store.

Zip around Jungala @ Busch Gardens:

I have always loved Dragon Land at Busch Gardens but as my kids got older I thought it would be cool to have a place like Dragon Land but for older kids too.  Guess what?  They read my mind and next weekend Jungala is opening! Busch Gardens Tampa Bay opens Jungala – its newest and most ambitious park enhancement project to date. Set in the Congo area, the 4-acre attraction invites guests to discover exotic creatures, explore a colorful village hidden deep in the jungle and connect with the inhabitants of the lush landscape through up-close animal interactions, multi-story family play areas, rides and live entertainment.

*Passport Members are able to get in the park an hour early every Saturday and Sunday in April – (Fun Card members are not eligible for this special event)
